Your questions, answered.
Choosing aged care can feel overwhelming. Here are answers to the questions we hear most — and if yours isn't here, our team is always happy to help.
How do I get started with home care?
The first step is usually an assessment through My Aged Care — and we make it easy. Our team can come to you, in your own home, to help you register with My Aged Care, prepare for your assessment, and get everything set up. We'll guide you through every step at no cost. Just give us a call to arrange a visit. You can also read more on our Getting Started page.
How much does home care cost?
The cost depends on the type of support you receive and how it's funded. Government-funded programs like Support at Home and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme may cover much of the cost, sometimes with a small contribution from you. Private care is arranged directly and funded by you or your family. Our team can explain your options and any costs clearly before you commit — with no obligation.
What's the difference between Support at Home, CHSP and Private Care?
Support at Home helps older Australians who need ongoing support to stay independent at home. Commonwealth Home Support (CHSP) is entry-level support for everyday tasks — a gentle first step, delivered in partnership with Australian Unity. Private Care is funded by you directly, with no waiting for assessments and full flexibility. Not sure which fits? Give us a call and we'll help you work it out.
Am I eligible for government-funded care?
Eligibility for government-funded aged care is determined through an assessment via My Aged Care, generally for Australians aged 65 and over (or 50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people). We can help you understand whether you're likely to be eligible and support you through the assessment process.
Can I choose who provides my care?
Yes. We believe care works best when it's built on familiar, trusted relationships. We do our best to match you with carers who suit you, and to keep the same carers visiting — not a revolving door of unfamiliar faces.
What areas do you service?
We support communities across the Wide Bay (including Hervey Bay and Maryborough), the Mid North Coast (including Port Macquarie and Kempsey), and the Northern Rivers. We're always growing, so even if you're outside these areas, get in touch — we may be able to help sooner than you'd think. See our Locations page for more.
What services can you provide?
Our support includes personal care, domestic assistance, transport, meal preparation, social support and group activities, respite care, overnight and 24-hour care, home maintenance and gardening. We tailor the mix to what each person actually needs.
What happens if my needs change?
Care needs change over time, and we're built to adapt. We stay in touch and review your support regularly, adjusting your services as your needs change so you always have the right level of care.
How quickly can care start?
Often, very quickly. If you already have a funding package and are transferring from another provider, we can usually get your care in place fast — switching to Rose Life Care is simple, and we handle the process for you. Private care can also begin quickly, since there's no assessment or funding approval to wait for. If you're starting from scratch with government-funded care, timing depends on the assessment and approval process — but we'll help you move through it as smoothly as possible and keep you informed the whole way.
I've received my funding letter — what now?
Congratulations — that's a great step. When you receive your letter from My Aged Care confirming your funding, simply contact our office and we'll arrange a visit from our team to get everything set up and book your services.
How is my personal information protected?
We take your privacy seriously and handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. You can read the full details on our Privacy & Terms page.
